Water & Energy Nexus Forum

iUTAH is a co-sponsor of the 2nd annual Water & Energy Nexus Forum, to be held next Thursday, Jan. 21, at the Davis Conference Center in Layton. The forum may be especially relevant to those who are considering a proposal for the NSF’S new INFEWS (Innovations at the Nexus of Food, Energy, and Water Systems) call.

The Forum focuses on the interdependencies between water systems and energy systems, and features presentations on energy savings for water systems; micro-hydropower generation; Utah drought history since 1430; bio-energy development from wastewater; and other topics. Speakers include officials of the Utah Division of Oil, Gas & Mining and Governor’s Office of Energy Development, Jordan Valley and Weber Basin Water Conservancy Districts, Salt Lake City Corp., and Rocky Mountain Power as well as Lt. Gov. Spencer Cox and state Sen. Margaret Dayton.

Dr. Richard Alley to speak at Weber State University

Dr. Richard Alley, 2014 recipient of the National Academy of Sciences' Arthur L. Day Prize for science communication, will speak at Weber State University's Shepherd Union Building in Ogden. A distinguished glaciologist and climate scientist, Dr. Alley's research has focused on the retrieval and study of ice cores from Greenland and Antarctica. An outstanding communicator, Alley is described in the New York Times as a cross between Carl Sagan and Woody Allen. He has particular gifts for making the science of climate change accessible to everyone, and for taking the politics out of the issue. Dr. Alley has been featured in numerous television documentaries, including Earth: The Operators' Manual, shown on PBS in 2011, and available online. Event times and locations:
