Conference: Water Management Strategies for Addressing Long-Term Drought and Climate Uncertainty

Western Water Resources, an Extension program that integrates water resources teaching, research, and outreach in the western U.S., invites participants to attend this two-day conference focused on western water issues. The conference will bring together agency personnel, university faculty and students, and water management practitioners to provide information on management tools and approaches that can improve water managers’ ability to cope with increased drought and flooding associated with climate variability. The conference will include mediated discussions to identify critical research needs, emerging concerns, best practices, and more. Graduate students are encouraged to submit abstracts for an evening poster session.

Environmental artist Betsy Damon featured speaker for USU’s popular Science Unwrapped a outreach series that provides hands-on science learning fun for inquiring minds of all ages. October 9, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. in the Emert Auditorium (Room 130) of the Eccles Science Learning Center on the USU campus.

America's Water Webinar Series with Nick Brozovic

The Columbia Water Center’s “State of America’s Water: Present and Future” webinar series will both promote literacy on America’s water and engage public and private sector decision makers in the financial community to better understand the dimensions of water issues. Co-sponsored by CUAHSI.

 

Past: Assess how the variations in climate, energy development and national/global economics over the last century influenced changes in water use and its valuation across the continental USA.
Present: Trends affecting water availability, withdrawal and use of surface water and groundwater by various sectors.
Future: Evolution of water use and supply while explicitly considering the capacity expansion of water and energy and urban infrastructure and potential re-allocation of cropping patterns, relative to global climate change, energy and economic scenarios, and prescribed water rights/allocation mechanisms and ecological needs.

 

This webinar will be held October 6, 12:00 - 1:00 pm EDT with presenter Nick Brozovic, University of Nebraska.

Year of Water Film Screening and Lecture - Chasing Ice

Save the Date - The USU Year of Water will be screening Jim Balog's Emmy award winning film Chasing Ice on September 22, 2015 and on September 29, 2015 Jim Balog will be speaking about the film. Both events will be held at the Performance Hall on the Utah State University campus. Time of the event TBD.

Sandra Postel, director of the Global Water Policy Project and author of the Last Oasis: Facing Water Scarcity, will speak on the global freshwater challenge and new solutions for a thirsty world on Septebmer 21, 2015, 4:00 pm at the Utah State University Agricultural Sciences Building, Room 101.
