April 25, 2015

Utah STEM Expo

The STEM Expo will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at the South Towne Expo Center in Sandy. The Expo is an excellent opportunity for middle/high school students to demonstrate their STEM explorations in and out of the classroom and extensions of the inquiry process posed in their projects and demos. The Expo itself will offer a venue for students to showcase the fruits of their STEM studies and hard work; for professionals to show how STEM is used to better our communities; and for spectators to participate in hands-on experiments. The Expo event will connect our schools to the community, our students to professionals, and generate interest and excitement for science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Review Deadline: July 10, 2015

Feedback needed on 6-8 Grade Science & Engineering Education Standards

The Utah State Board of Education has released the 6th-8th grade Utah Science and Engineering Education (SEEd) standards for 90-day public review. Utah SEEd standards are available online for the public to view and provide feedback using an online survey tool. The downloads for the SEEd standards, as well as the link to the online review tool, are available on the USOE website.

Safeguarding Cache Valley's Water - Bear River Development Project

As a result of growing water concerns in the West, plans for a new reservoir in Cache Valley are underway.  The Bear River Development Project will develop 220,000 acre-feet of Utah’s water rights on the Bear River. The Division of Water Resources is currently undergoing studies to investigate reservoir sites and right-of-way for a transmission pipeline.  Come join us to learn more about this future reservoir.

USU Science Unwrapped

iUTAH will have a booth at the USU Science Unwrapped: Great Salt Lake Today series on April 17, 2015 at 7:00 pm in the Eccles Science Learning Center Auditorium. This month's topic is "Going to Extremes: Extremophiles in Great Salt Lake" presented by Bonnie Baxter, director of the Great Salt Lake Institute and professor in Westminster College's Department of Biology.

SEA Software Engineering Conference 2015

The National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) is hosting the Fourth Annual Software Engineer Assembly (SEA) Conference and Tutorials on April 13 – 17, 2015 in Boulder, Colorado. The SEA Conference and Tutorials provide great opportunities for students and faculty to attend talks, engage discussions and receive in-depth technical training on important aspects of scientific computing and software engineering. This year SEA Conference theme will be “Python for Scientific Computing.”
